| | This 42'x 72" is a collograph master plate from which images may be printed. Much of my work has an oriental flavor to it. Why, I don't know as I have never been to the orient! However, I do love their art and had an instructor whose emphasis was oriental and he heavily influenced me.
I no longer use these plates as a printing surface and therefore, I have chosen to frame them. In making this art, I overlay heavy pieces of thick paper like museum board or whatever else I can find that will lie flat that can be glued in place. I add a coat of modeling paste to create the heavy texture and then cover the surface with a medium and let dry.
The plate is now ready to receive color which is adhered with rollers and brushes and then rubbed back down so that only a hint of the color is left. This process is repeated many many times to achieve the beautiful patina that these pieces have.
Because of this concept of using these plates as I have, they command attention not only because of their size but their incredible subtle color.
This and plates like this create a conversation piece for any room or office. | |
